Socializing Your New Havanese Puppy
It is advised that your puppy not be on the ground in places where other dogs (especially other puppies) frequent until they have received their last puppy inoculations at around 16 weeks old. Most deadly diseases passed by other dogs are passed by improperly cared for puppies.
Before then, you can socialize your puppy with friends, family, and their adult dogs who are known to be healthy and fully vaccinated. Puppy classes are another great option and can be started as early as two months of age. Puppy classes are offered by many private trainers, pet stores, and animal shelters. Training
The Havanese is a natural clown, but they are also eager to please and eager to learn! Although never bred to work, the Havanese does have a natural predisposition to people-pleasing. This trait is what drives and motivates their desire to learn. Their clownish tendencies and people-pleasing trait align to make them the perfect trick dogs, too, and they were even once used as circus dogs! They love to learn and perform for their people or strangers! Read more about Havanese training.
Havanese Personality
The Havanese personality and temperament is that of an affectionate, fun-loving, and easygoing dog breed. Although they will attach strongly to one person, they love to be around everyone! They love to be around their people and prefer not to be alone, although a properly bred Havanese will not be more prone to separation anxiety or nervous behaviors.
The Havanese is generally very sociable and friendly with strangers, but still requires early socialization to make sure this part of their personality and temperament develops properly. Read more about Havanese personality.
